2021 Caelesta Block 21 Syrah: Where Paso Meets Cote Rotie!

THE STORY

We happily discovered today’s Caelesta Syrah in our wine room a couple of weeks ago. It was another K&L Wine Merchants special on their highly rated wines. While this particular Syrah is sold out, there are many more from this winery still available through K&L.  I haven’t met one yet that I don’t like. Check out their current and library wines on the Caelesta website!

THE WINERY

From their website: “Caelesta is the culmination of family, passion, and a dedication to expressing the unique terroir of the Templeton Gap AVA in Paso Robles. Situated at 1,400 feet with 360-degree vineyard aspects and Linne Calodo limestone soils, the Caelesta estate yields wines with velvety tannin structure, vibrant acidity, and unmistakable sense of place — all with a focus on sustainability for this generational ranch.” You can read more about them here: The Land.

THE WINES

Today I am presenting just 1 Caelesta wine.Winery notes come from the K&L website. Any errors are mine and mine alone. As a rule, I do not correct typos from the websites of others.

Winery Notes: “The 2021 Block 10 Syrah is a bold and expressive wine that commands attention with its deep, inky color and alluring aromas. Our goal is to make a Syrah half way between the Paso style and Cote Rotie. Upon first sip, the palate is greeted by intense flavors of blueberry compote and baked plums, underscored by hints of cracked black pepper and subtle notes of smoked meat. This Syrah showcases a robust body with velvety tannins, leading to a long and satisfying buttery toast finish. Drink now with 1 hour decant or age through 2035.” 100% Syrah  95 points – Jeb Dunnuck

My Review: Dark and rich in the glass. Dark nose of cassis-like intense, jammy fruit, mashed with eucalyptus notes. Palate is rich and smooth with a slightly dry finish. This is a mouthful of dark fruit and is a very delicious wine. October 2026

I encourage you to read all of the professional reviews on this fabulous Syrah on the K&L website here.
